Akintola Hanif’s work “No Religion” will be included in “3rd Wave: The Planet of Brooklyn Transitions”, a group exhibit focusing on the gentrification of Brooklyn. Sponsored by the Brooklyn Arts Council and curated by Phillip Harvey of Nat Creole Magazine, the show runs from October 13, 2006 — January 14, 2007.

With the completion of 2 short films and 1 PSA, Akintola Hanif used his time this summer to demonstrate a commitment to the children of his community. The projects, created for various community service organizations in Newark, New Jersey, encourage and inspire youth to achieve success in their personal and academic lives.

Akintola Hanif’s innovative short film, Freedom or Everybody Dies will be screened at the 12th Annual Black Harvest International Festival of Film and Video. Presented by the Gene Siskel Film Center, the festival is Chicago?s annual showcase for films that probe and celebrate black culture worldwide. “Freedom or Everybody Dies” will be screened as part of the shorts program “Urban Visions” on Saturday, August 12 at 6:00PM.
Brooklyn-born photographer and filmmaker, Akintola Hanif, is featured in the latest issue of British art magazine, Head. His cover story, “Black Dice”, showcases a series of artistic photography highlighting female sexuality.

Akintola Hanif’s first exhibit in his homelands of Brooklyn will open at Harriet’s Alter Ego on Sunday, April 9, 2006. The exhibit, entitled The Other Side of Fear, is a look at his work from the past four years and will include a continous screening of his short film Freedom or Everybody Dies. Opening April 9 with an appearance from the artist, The Other Side of Fear will run through May 7, 2006. Harriet’s Alter Ego is located in Brooklyn at 293 Flatbush Avenue.

Freedom or Everybody Dies, continues to make it’s run at film festivals worldwide. Midwest fans can screen the cutting edge short film at the Thank God for Hip-Hop Film Festival & Action Conference. The Thank God for Hip-Hop Film Festival & Action Conference will celebrate the blessings of hip-hop’s power to effect change in the community.
